If there's truly a job I admire.. it has to be firefighters.
Today an event led me to this very entry.
A firefighter rushed into A&E clutching a lifeless child body.
They were on a mission to evacuate a village, where occupants were mainly non locals ( illegal immigrants) due to flood. The firebrigade boat they were using to transport villagers hit a floating log and capsized.
Chaos ensued. While some managed to swim to safety and most children were rescued but one little girl was missing.
20mins she spent submerged below the capsized boat.
And that very little girl was brought to A&E in the arms of a firefighter, desperately attempted CPR and looking for help.
The moment we told him there was nothing we can do for the the child, he broke down. A grown up man crying for someone else's child, knowing his actions was futile.
It just tugged my heart.
Just a thought that firefighters are usually the first responder to accident scene. Definitely they've seen all sorts of gruesome scenes and for this officer to breakdown must be heart wretching for him.
Rarely we hear public complain about them. Of course civil servants would not expect praises. Even rarer are reports of scandals/bribery about firefighters.
So this conclude my small dedication on the contribution of the unsung heroes.
Fight on Mr. Bomba!
